Yesterday, I took a Sabbath. As part of my Sabbath, I indulged in a mini binge of reality TV – the Great American Baking Show Holiday edition. (I love watching baking shows… it inspires me). As I watched, I couldn’t help but notice how some of the most intense bakers seem to tie their identity to their baking. Perhaps this helps them out in the contest. But it greatly saddened me.
We are not what we do! We are who God called us to be! As humans encased in flesh, we do have a tendency to look for our identity in as the song says “in all the wrong places”. We look at our jobs, because we have a job description, we look at our ministry, because there is direction from the leader, we look at our relationships because our place in that relationship defines our role. (Mom, wife, sister)
But none of these things define our identity! Ford does not give names to cars made by Chevy for a reason! Ford didn’t make the car, they don’t know what the specs are or even the capabilities- they have no right to name it. God made you, He is the only One Who knows what’s in you. You may be a great baker, a great cook, a great organizer or a great _______, I promise you, what you think you are is only a fraction of who you could be. And only God can tell you what else is in you!
Get in the Word, get with some strong women of God, spend time with your Creator. Go to the Source, my sister!
Love you!
